Everyone wants a bright, healthy smile. Unfortunately, our habits and lifestyles are filled with foods and drinks that dull and discolor teeth. Whitening is a very popular procedure.
In our practice we utilize various techniques to achieve the brightest smile for our patients, as much as 8 shades whiter in only an hour! Depending on the discoloration of your teeth we may use professional strength white strips (much safer, and with better results than over the counter brands) to in-office gel or bleaching systems. We have tried many of the lighted systems and have found a safer, healthier alternative in Opalescence. We may even supply you with highly effective take-home trays and gels. Unfortunately, whitening isn’t for everyone, there are certain dental conditions that must be treated prior to whitening.
We use and recommend Opalescence Boost 40%.
Opalescence is a chemically activated whitener that safely provides incredible whitening results in less than an hour. Infused with potassium nitrate and fluoride, the ingredients in Opalescence has been shown to reduce sensitivity and strengthen enamel – even preventing cavities. Opalescence can actually improve the health of your teeth. This is important to consider as all off the self products you can buy at your drugstore all use products that strip tooth enamel.
A surface whitener is applied to the teeth in a liquid form with a brush or a strip, these peroxide-based tooth bleaching products usually need to be applied once or twice a day for 10 to 14 days. When using the at-home over the counter products, too much extended exposure to the peroxide can result in painful, sensitive teeth and cavities due to weakened enamel.
If you choose to bleach your teeth, see us first. We can fit you with a tray-based tooth whitening system custom fitted to your teeth. With our teeth whitening option, a mouth guard-like tray is filled with a peroxide-based bleaching gel or paste and placed over the teeth. We will provide you with the best gel formula for the condition of your teeth. You can buy tray-based tooth whitening systems over-the-counter but as with white strips, excessive exposure to peroxide can result in painful, sensitive teeth and cavities due to weakened enamel.
